Well everyone's favorite on ice and twitter punching bag Paul "Biz Nasty" Bissonnette has been released from the St. Louis Blues.
I was a bit surprised by this but at the same time not really. I didn't know that the Blues already had an "enforcer" so I figured that Biz would slip right into that role nicely there. He is a 4th line player who can skate and cause havoc in front of a net or just in general.
I, like any of Paul's Twitter followers, enjoy when he lets loose on the Twitter machine to yip back at some pro hockey wanna be and really lets them have it. But it seems that this may be all he can do now sadly.
Don't get me wrong. I am a fan of his but I think that since his release from the Blues and lack of a contract at the moment, his time in the NHL is over for now. Leaving him a lot more time to chirp at anyone who wishes to say anything ridiculous at/to/about him.
I'm sure if he wanted to he could probably go play in Europe or Russia, but is it really worth it for him? I don't know at all, but I'm sure his dream to continue to play in the NHL might hold him here in North America.
If I were him and I still wanted to play hockey, I would take whatever I could get as far as a contract goes. Russia, Europe or whatever other league will offer money to play the game.
His type of play though is what will hinder him. He's a typical 4th line player. Very limited minutes on the ice and he is really only out there to enforce and create a spark for his team.
He does occasionally chip in with a point every so often, but it's probably to few to make sense to sign him to any contract. I say that now, but I'm sure something will happen this season that will see a few 4th line enforcers get a contract for the rest of the season.
I don't know Paul at all but I do hope that he does come back to the NHL this season. He comes across to me as a team player type of guy with a personality. Which is nice.
He speaks his mind, at least on Twitter, and stands up for his team mates.
What do you think? Should some team pick him up? Or any enforcer they see fit?
I hope someone does.
