Does the Jets D ground them?

With signing RFA hold outs, Patrick Laine and Kyle Connor complete, the Winnipeg Jets are looking to not only repeat, but out due their performance from last season.
There is one major hiccup with that plan though. The defensive lineup the team will have available to them to start the season.

The Jets have lost Tyler Myers (Vancouver), Jacob Trouba (New York), Ben Chiarot (Ottawa) and recently Dustin Byfuglien (Personal). In short, the Jets defense core is decimated.

Tyler Myers signed a shiny new 5 year/30 million dollar deal with the Vancouver Canucks. Jacob Trouba was traded to the New York Rangers in exchange for defenceman Neal Pionk and the 1st round pick in the 2019 draft (Ville Heinola), and Ben Chiarot signed a free agency deal with the Montreal Canadians on July 4th for 10.5 million dollars over 3 years.

Now those are some large names from last season who have left the team over the last few months. And to top it all off, Dustin Byfuglien has asked (and been granted) for a personal leave from the team to decide his future of playing.
The plus side of the Byfuglien leave is that he can still come back. There are rumors out there right now that he has said he will return to Winnipeg soon and resume his role with the team. And for Jets fans that can't come soon enough.

With the disappointment of last seasons playoff exit still sitting in the back of their throats, the Jets appear to be aiming for a deeper run into the post season. They extended defenceman Josh Morrissey another eight years (starting in the 20/21 season), and they signed defenseman, and previously mentioned 2019 first round draft pick, Ville Heinola to a three year entry level deal. They still have Dmitry Kulikov in the line up and as well as newly acquired Neal Pionk.
Also as of today, they have acquired left handed, Swedish defenceman Carl Dahlstrom off of waivers from the Chicago Blackhawks.
So while some familiar names may be gone, the Jets have begun the task of restocking their roster to help them get through the regular season and beyond.

Will the new additions be able to soar to new heights carrying the load that will undoubtedly be placed on their shoulders, or will it be too much for them to handle and have it ground the team?

For me I feel the defense will crack a bit under the pressure and not be able to repeat their success from last season. I hope I'm wrong and we get to watch a Canadian team in the playoffs in the spring of 2020.
