Connor McDavid

A lot of people have been talking today about Connor McDavid and his new injury to his hand. He sustained a possible broken hand in a fight against the Mississauga Steelheads on Tuesday Nov 11 when he reportedly punched either the glass or the dasher of the boards.

He immediately held his right hand down after the fight and went to the penalty box and then onto the dressing room to be evaluated by the teams medical staff.
This no doubt puts into question, how will this affect his chances at being number one overall in the 2015 NHL Draft? Not only that, but will McDavid be able to play for Team Canada in the upcoming World Junior Championship in Toronto/Montreal in December?
He has also now been ruled out of competition for the Subway Super Series against Russia and is listed as "out indefinitely."

Many people are questioning why exactly did he even fight someone when he has so much on the line to lose?

Think of it this way, when you were 17 years old and played a competitive sport, did someone ever get under your skin to the point where you wanted to get back at them?
If you did play, then it most likely happened.  I feel this is exactly what happened here.  He wasn't out to go and pick the fight, it just happened.  Tempers flared and emotions got the better of McDavid who in turn, dropped his gloves and engaged in the fight.
It happens from time to time with every player in hockey where someone pushes your buttons and you feel you have to do something about it.
Crosby has fought, Ovi has fought, even Semin tried to fight once.
So when people say that he shouldn't have fought, you're right.  He has too much on the line to be fighting when he doesn't have to. But when you have to stand up for yourself, and there is no other way, so be it. He knew the consequences when he decided to drop his gloves and it didn't seem to slow him down any.

Will he fight again?  I doubt it, but you never know.
Right now I think that hockey fans all over are hoping the injury isn't too serious and he is healed in time to play in the WJHC. But with injuries like these, they could take a few weeks all the way upto a few months to heal.  No one will know for sure until he gets x-rays and is checked by the doctor. Only then will the hockey world know how serious the injury really is.

I hope that for his sake that the injury isn't too bad and he heals quickly.
Only time will tell how he will heal up.
It was sad that it had to happen, but it did and there is no one to blame except Connor himself. He knew what was at stake and he did it anyways. I'm sure if he could take it back he would but that is life. Live and learn.
Heal fast Connor McDavid, I would love to see you sporting the Team Canada jersey at the WJHC this December and watch you go first overall in June.

That's all for now and thanks for reading.
